Maj. Gen. (R) Dr. Azhar Mahmood Kayani founded the Rawalpindi Institute of Cardiology (RIC) and led it for eight years as Executive Director, building it into a state-of-the-art cardiac centre. On retiring from RIC, he returned to private practice to found Medikay Cardiac Centre — Chak Shehzad's first 60-bed cardiovascular hospital of its standard.
